What is Securing Your Future Expo 2009?

The Maryland State Bar Association’s Leadership Academy 2008-2009 will present “Securing Your Future Expo 2009” on May 2, 2009, at the University of Maryland Samuel Riggs Alumni Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.   This free Expo will equip attendees with the tools necessary to address issues such as: foreclosure, debt management and household budgeting, emergency preparedness and disaster relief.

Securing your Future Expo 2009 has something for everyone. At the Expo, attendees will attend free workshops on these important issues presented by a variety of partners, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and community service providers. Participants will learn how to prevent or mitigate losses in the event of looming debt and/or foreclosure, natural disasters and gain access to information and resources dedicated to financial literacy and emergency preparedness.

As part of the Expo, volunteer attorneys from the Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland will present a Foreclosure Solutions Workshop, where participants can get free one-on-one legal advice about their individual problems by lawyers who are trained in foreclosure prevention.

Are you facing a foreclosure?  A foreclosure means you could lose your home.  Receiving notice that your house is about to be foreclosed upon is one of the most traumatic events you can experience. According to a report released by the Mortgage Bankers Association, a record 1.2 million homes were in foreclosure during the last three months of 2008.

Are you prepared for a natural disaster?
The need to prepare for natural disasters is real. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, being prepared for a natural disaster can reduce your fear, anxiety, and losses.

Do you need help with household budgeting?

Securing Your Future Expo 2009
will give you the knowledge necessary to answer these tough questions. Get key information from government agencies, non-profit organizations, and community service providers who will be on-hand to provide you free guidance to help you Secure Your Future.
